Missouri

Missouri is a strong road-trip state with two major cities, Ozark rivers, caves, wine country, Route 66, barbecue, music, sports, family attractions, and Civil War and westward-expansion history. Visit Missouri organizes planning around trip ideas, itineraries, regions, events, agritourism, art and history, attractions and tours, entertainment and nightlife, family fun, food and drink, outdoors, shopping, sports and recreation, Route 66, caves, the Katy Trail, the Gateway Arch, and Kansas City World Cup 2026 planning.

St. Louis is anchored by Gateway Arch National Park, where the National Park Service interprets Thomas Jefferson’s vision of continental expansion, St. Louis’s westward-expansion role, and Dred and Harriet Scott’s freedom suits in the Old Courthouse. The park’s visitor center is listed as open daily 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; the tram ride to the top, museum, Old Courthouse, riverfront grounds, and spring cherry-tree views are the first-time highlights. Reserve tram tickets in busy periods and allow extra time for security and downtown parking.

Southern Missouri is best for travelers who want water and limestone landscapes. Ozark National Scenic Riverways was the first national park area created to protect a river system, preserving the spring-fed Current and Jacks Fork rivers. NPS highlights canoeing, swimming, boating, fishing, hundreds of freshwater springs, caves, trails, Alley Mill, Rocky Falls, Big Spring, river-level checks, outfitters, camping information, float-time planning, and seasonal visitor guidance.

Kansas City adds barbecue, jazz, museums, fountains, sports, and World Cup 2026 energy; Branson is family-show and lake country; Springfield, Cuba, Lebanon, Rolla, and St. Louis make a classic Route 66 line; Hermann and Augusta suit wine weekends; Columbia and the Katy Trail add biking and college-town stops. Visitor Tip: For summer Ozark floats and Route 66 weekends, reserve lodging, campsites, outfitters, and Arch tram tickets ahead, and check river levels and weather before committing to a float.
